Abstract:

The inner parts of barred galaxies contain interesting gaseous substructures that include dust lanes, nuclear rings, and nuclear spirals. Understanding their formation and evolution is of crucial importance to understand how the interstellar gas in barred galaxies is driven inward to affect star formation activities in the nuclear regions. Since the gas flows shaping them are highly nonlinear, numerical simulations have been an indispensable tool to study their formation, evolution, and associated dynamics. In this talk, I will present recent results of our high-resolution simulations, focusing on the effects of bar strength and magnetic fields on the properties of bar substructures and star formation occurring in nuclear rings. I will also discuss the numerical results in comparison with observations.
