Abstract:
The Gaia-ESO Survey is aimed to obtain high resolution spectra of field stars and clusters in the Galaxy. The goal is to characterize the stellar populations in the Milky Way and to unravel its formation history. Here the scientific goals, the observing strategy of the survey are presented together with the first results.
