Galaxy formation and spatial alignment
Title: Galaxy formation and spatial alignment
Speaker: Dr Xi Kang (Purple Mountain Observatory, CAS))
Time: 3 PM, Apr. 27th (Thursday)
Abstract:
Galaxies are the fundamental units and building blocks of the Universe. Vast progress has been made in both observational and theoretical studies. In this talk I will introduce two basic tools, semi-analytical model and hydro-dynamical simulations, for modeling galaxy formation. I will highlight their progress, challenges and future prospects. In the mean time, galaxy spatial alignment contains rich information of how galaxies are accretion and shaped by the large-scale environment, I will also shortly introduce our recent work on understanding the correlation between galaxy spin and the large-scale structure.
